Profi Rom Food Agrees to 100% Acquisition by Enterprise Investors

Profi Rom Food Group, a leading Romanian grocery chain, is preparing for new ownership following a takeover announcement by Enterprise Investors (EI). Enterprise has reached a formal agreement to acquire 100% of Profi Rom from Duna Waiting Participation, for a price of €66 million. The acquisition will be made through EI’s Polish Enterprise Fund VI and will give the private investment company full ownership of not only Profi Rom, but Albinuta Shops and DT Logistic as well.

Based in the western Romanian city of Timisoara, Profi Rom Food Group was established in 2000 as a discount retail operation. Through years of growth and expansion in the supermarket industry it has evolved to become one of Romania’s leading retailers of groceries, personal hygiene products, and household goods. The company’s 65 retail outlets can be found in 47 cities throughout the country, even as the company continues its current expansion plans. 2008 Revenues were reported at €150 million and are expected to increase by as much as 40% for 2009.

It is the oldest firm of its kind Poland, managing private equity and venture capital funds in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. With more than 90 investments fully exited, the firm has produced profits of more than €1.3 billion.
