Lexum Gets Support From Arx Equity in Acquisition of Intermedica

Upon acquiring Czech opthalmology company Lexum Group last year, ARX Equity Partners pledged to work with Lexum founder Marc Filipec to expand the company within Central and Eastern Europe. Holding to that pledge Lexum recently announced the acquisition of Intermedica, a leading player in Poland’s opthalmology clinic market, for an undisclosed price.

The acquisition helps further Lexum’s plans for consolidation of opthalmology services in the region.

Intermedica (www.intermedica.pl)
Intermedica is a Polish opthalmology services company originally established in 1999 by Denmark’s Transmedica A/S. The company’s two eye clinics in Krakow and Poznan provide opthalmological diagnostic services as well as cataract removal, laser surgery, and other treatments.

In 2007 Intermedica opened a new facility in the north western city of Szczecin where it offers eye exams and refractive surgery procedures. All three facilities offer both Lasik and Lasek procedures while the Poznan clinic became the first in north west Poland to offer correction procedures based on new Wavefront Technology.

Lexum Group (www.lexum.cz)
Founded in 1993, Lexum Group is a network of private ophthalmology clinics in the Czech Republic. Clinics have been established in Prague, Ostrava, and Ceské Budejovice, and a new clinic is planned later this year for Brno.

Lexum completed over 11,000 cataract operations and 5,700 laser refractive corrective procedures in 2008. Lexum also provides treatment services for cataracts, retina disorders, and aesthetics. The growing popularity of Lasik procedures lead to an increase in staff at several Lexum clinics in 2008.

In 2007 the company was honored as having performed two of the most important medical achievements in the Czech Republic for its work in keratoconus surgery and corneal surgery. Professor Filipec performed both operations with the assistance of colleagues.
