Polkomtel Shortlist Includes Seven Investors

In anticipation of the second round of bidding for Poland’s Polkomtel mobile phone company, a shortlist of seven investor groups has been settled on. Orascom Telecom and America Movil, both of whom entered first round bids, were not included on the shortlist. Among those who did make it are Apax, KKR, Providence, Telenor, TeliaSonera, Polish billionaire Zygmunt Solorz Zak, and Blackstone and TPG (jointly). Binding offers, which could go as high as €5 billion, are due next month.

When Polkomtel was first put on the market it was valued at approximately €4 billion.

Based in Warsaw, Polkomtel is a telecom company offering a full range of products to both residential and commercial clients. Beginning with standard voice phone, the company also offers such industry norms as internet access and monitoring service. Beyond the basics, clients can also utilize video phone, voice access to email, roaming service, and a variety of mobile entertainment and information services.

Through the first half of 2010, the company’s net profit stands at €152.75 million on revenues of just under €949.8 million. Polkomtel employs some 3,700 people.
